Doing His First Fight Gone Bad And Rx'ing It

60 Pounds In 60 Days

Sully Vazquez is the last guy on the planet to boast about his accomplishments at CFLB - so we thought we'd go ahead and do it for him. This past summer, Sully made a promise to himself to start fresh and get healthy. "So I joined the July On-Ramp session at CFLB and have loved it ever since."

Sully finished his On-Ramp course 30 pounds lighter. And 100% committed to CrossFit and his new Paleo-inspired diet.

"Although it took some convincing, one week after starting I was making sure I cut out all sugary snacks, soft drinks and grain," he recalls. "The results, to say the least, were mind-blowing."

By the end of two months, Sully had dropped 60 pounds. He's now down from 320 to 230 pounds. With his svelte new physique, Sully's started to see significant improvements in his strength, stamina and performance.

At the start of On-Ramp, Sully could barely perform a few knee push-ups. Now he's cranking out the standard variety. He's shedding bands on his kipping pull-ups, too, and working hard toward his first unassisted pull-up. He just participated in his first Fight Gone Bad fundraising event, completing one of CrossFit's most feared workouts as prescribed, and beating his previous scaled-down score in the process.

"Two and half months ago I felt like dying after (barely) completing the 400m warm up," he explains in September 2011. "Just recently, I completed the 5k WOD, only stopping to ask for directions while figuring out our new location's route. Confident that I can run for more than 20 minutes without dying, my goal now is to become faster. In addition to learning how to read street signs!"

These visible results - both in weigh loss and performance gains - are a big part of what keeps Sully coming back. "I'm actually seeing progress," he says. "Once I week, I make it a point to look back at a few of my On-Ramp logs to compare how far I've come, and to remind me how much I would like to keep going."

While the results motivate him to come to class, it's people at CFLB that make even the suckiest WODs enjoyable. "I love that no matter how grueling the WOD seems, I know I'm going to have an absolute blast," he says. "CFLB makes me feel right at home. I'm blown away by how much my fellow CrossFitters genuinely want to help me improve."

Sully adds, "Those that perform the Rx workouts on a regular basis serve as inspirations, reminding you that if you work hard enough you might one day achieve that degree of fitness."

Another one of Sully's goals: joining the LA Sheriff's Department. We have no doubt he'll achieve this too, and be the fittest deputy wearing a badge.

"Sully has a great sense of humor," says Coach Chad. "But don't let that fool you. He's serious about getting fit and healthy, and it shows in his incredible results. He's a role model for all CrossFitters, at every fitness level."

"We've tried to post Sully's Success Story for months now," says Coach Gina. "But we've postponing it because by the time we're ready to post, he's lost another 10lbs. He also won our December 2011 Paleo Challenge! He's inspired so many others here. We love having him around."
