Watching Julia finish her 100th pull-up, you would never guess that when she started at CFLB in March 2008, she could barely do a single knee push-up. "I was in disgusting shape," Julia recalls. "The beginning years of my 20s were very lazy."
Julia grew up playing softball, basketball, and practicing karate - which she also taught. So when she decided it was time to get back into shape, she starting taking kickboxing classes. Her kickboxing coach suggested CrossFit as a way to increase her endurance, stamina and strength. Done, done and done.
A former vegetarian, Julia is a testament to the results-driven science of the Paleo diet. Today, Julia is one of the fastest, strongest CrossFit competitors in our gym. She's also a Certified Level 1 CrossFit trainer, now coaching our On-Ramp course.
"I can really empathize with people starting CrossFit, most of who are in way better shape than I was," Julia says. "I stuck it through, and now I'm here training."
Long before she became a trainer, Julia was always ready to help other members with pointers and suggestions, even sticking around for the next class to lend a hand. The other members have come to rely on her for support and encouragement, but also for her relentless ability to push people beyond their comfort zones.
"The limits are an illusion, you really can push a lot harder," Julia explains. "I want to help people achieve their goals, and be better than they ever thought they could be."
It's an approach that's certainly worked for her.
"She could barely do a pushup on her knees when she started but has done a complete 180. She inspires everyone and now many of the guys are trying to catch her max pullups (she's at 32 and climbing)," says CFLB Coach Chad.
